We warmly invite you to join our Snowflake Blanket Crochet-Along (CAL), which has officially started! In this blog post, you will find the pattern description, and of course, the videos are here to make following the square's crochet process truly simple! If you love a challenge and enjoy learning new things, then this will be especially your project! Crochet one fluffy Chunky Monkey square at a time when you have a moment, and then assemble your own wonderfully warm blanket!
Do you like the pattern, but want to crochet something else? Check out my other patterns on Ravelry here>>>
During this Crochet-Along, we will create a super soft and warm blanket using Scheepjes Chunky Monkey yarn. The blanket is a true Granny Square blanket, meaning it is assembled from crocheted "Granny Squares." The pattern will be available for free here on the Fonaltündér website, but you can mostly follow the step-by-step instructions on my YouTube channel! You can join anytime; I am happy to help you plan the colors and the materials needed for your blanket's size.

Yarn Colors and Quantities Used for the Blanket:
Of course, the blanket can be made with any other color and combination. I am happy to help with putting together yarn colors and calculating the necessary quantities. If you have started planning and the specific colors are not available right now, please let me know at info@fonaltunder.hu, and I will procure the necessary quantities by the beginning of October! There is still plenty of time for planning until then!

General Notes:
Round 1: 3ch to count as 1 double crochet (dc), work 15 dc into the magic ring. [Stitch count at the end of the round: 16]
Round 2: Work 16 slip stitches (sl st), crocheting into the front loop only (FLO) of the previous round's dc (work the 1. sl st into the front loop of the top of the first 3dc). At the end of the round, cut the yarn, leaving at least a 10 cm tail, and make an "invisible join" with a wool needle. [16]
Round 3: In this round, you will enthusiastically work into the first round. There you will work into the back loops (BLO) of the dc stitches. Change to a new yarn color as per the pattern description.
* (1 dc in BLO, 1 ch, 1 dc in BLO) into the same st, then for the next dc do not work into the top of the st, but around its post. Work 1 BPtr (back post treble crochet) around the post of the dc. * Repeat this a total of 8 times. At the end of the round, cut the yarn, leaving at least a 10 cm tail, and make an "invisible join" with a wool needle. [4*8=32]
Round 4: In this round, you will boldly work into the second round, into the back loops (BLO) of the sl st stitches, and around the ch-1 spaces (ch-sp) of Round 3, which are located between the dc stitches. Mark these places with stitch markers (pm) if necessary. Change to a new yarn color as per the pattern description.
* (1 dc around the ch-1 sp of Rnd 3, 1tr into the BLO of the sl st of Rnd 2, 1dc around the same ch-1 sp of Rnd 3), 3 ch, skip the 3 sts of Rnd 3.* Repeat this a total of 8 times. At the end of the round, cut the yarn, leaving at least a 10 cm tail, and make an "invisible join" with a wool needle. [6*8=48]
Round 5: In this round, you will work single crochet (sc) into the elements of Rnd 4, either around the ch-3 space or into the back loops (BLO) of the stitches. Mark the 4th sc with a stitch marker (pm), as the next round must start here.
* 3Sc around the ch-3 sp of Rnd 4, 3sc into the BLO of the stitches of Rnd 4.* Repeat this a total of 8 times. At the end of the round, cut the yarn, leaving at least a 10 cm tail, and make an "invisible join" with a wool needle. [6*8=48]
Round 6: In this round, you will work with two different colors, meaning two strands, simultaneously. You will alternate them, working into the back loops (BLO) of Rnd 5 and returning to work into the tr stitches of Rnd 4. Start the round at the previously marked stitch. Hold the non-used yarn loosely and carry it along the back (WS) of your work, crocheting over it into the stitches.
* 3dc into the BLO, before completing the 3rd dc, change the yarn to the other color and pull the new yarn through the last 2 loops. Always change the yarn colors this way in this round. 1tr into the front loop of the tr of Rnd 4 (working back into Rnd 4). Change yarn color, 3 dc into the BLO, change yarn color, 1tr into the front loop of the tr of Rnd 4 (into the same stitch where the previous one was made). * You need to repeat this 8 times to complete the round. At the end of the round, cut the yarn, leaving at least a 10 cm tail, and make an "invisible join" with a wool needle. [(3+1+3+1)*8=64]
Round 7: In this round, you will form the definitive square shape. You will work with stitches of different heights to achieve this. It does not matter where you start Rnd 7, possibly where you see fewer joins, to weave in the yarn ends later. Work into the back loops (BLO) only.
* 2tr into the same st and into the BLO, 2dc, 2hdc, 6sc, 2hdc, 2dc, 2tr into the same st and into the BLO, 3ch (this will be the corner of the square. * Repeat this a total of 4 times. Fasten off the yarn with a slip stitch to the top of the first stitch. Do not cut the yarn; confidently continue with the same yarn. [21*4=84 sts]
Round 8: In this round, you will finish crocheting the square. Work into the back loops (BLO) only. Instead of the very first stitch, make one chain (ch), or two.
* 18hdc into the BLO, (1hdc and 1dc around the ch-3 space, 2ch, 1dc and 1hdc around the ch-3 space) * Repeat this 4 times. At the end of the round, cut the yarn, leaving at least a 10 cm tail, and make an "invisible join" with a wool needle. [22*4=88 sts]
